Interview with the Montenegro’s best second-year high school students, proposed by the teachers' councils for one of the four scholarships of the United World College awarded to Montenegro for the academic year 2011/2013, took place in the Agency for International Cooperation/ZAMTES, Njegoševa 2, Podgorica, on Monday, 18 April 2011. For the next two years the scholarships will be used in colleges located in Italy (Duino), BiH (Mostar), and Hong Kong.
The interview with a total of 21 high school students was conducted by the Selection Committee of the National Committee of Montenegro, whose Honorary President is Mr. Filip Vujanović, President of Montenegro, and composed of Mr. Derviš Selhanović, Chairman of the Committee, Ms. Lidija Ercegović, Secretary of the Committee, Mr. Djordje Jovanović, full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro, Ms. Nada Kovač, Advisor for academic mobility within the Ministry of Education and Sport of Montenegro and Ms. Nela Milošević, a former fellow of the UWC Li Po Chun in Hong Kong. Mr. Mike Price, director of studies at the UWC Adriatic in Duino, Italy, took part in the work of the Selection Committee on behalf of the United World College.
United World Colleges (UWC) is a unique global educational movement, which currently includes 13 colleges (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Norway, UK, the Netherlands, Canada, New Mexico, Hong Kong, India, Swaziland, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Singapore), and provides a curriculum that prepares students for university in their home country or abroad. Upon graduation on one of these colleges, students acquire the most regarded and widely known diploma of International Baccalaureate that opens the door to the world's most renowned universities which grant them full scholarships.
The names of this year's winners of these prestigious scholarships will be known within 10 days after the interview.
As the Chair of the UWC National Committee, Mr. Derviš Selhanović addressed the young, talented, and gifted candidates: "UWC system is one of the oldest educational systems in the world providing IB diploma, which allows students to continue their education at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. During the course of UWC’s long existence, many of our students were awarded IB, but also proved to be among the best students at colleges where they studied. We have cooperated with UWC for many years and we are members of this prestigious educational institution. We constituted National Committee when Montenegro became an independent country. The Agency for International Cooperation allocates over EUR 20 000 per year for students’ education, which is not only significant financial, but also organizational and logistical assistance”, emphasising that: “You represent the youngest creative intelligence of Montenegro. Therefore, you are the best among the best and with such potential Montenegro intends to build a prosperous civil society."
